ArmInfo.Armenia's absence in the CSTO meeting characterizes the current geopolitical situation in the region and, to some extent, the organization itself, as stated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, on November 28 in Astana during the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
"Today, I had the honor of speaking first, since our Armenian colleagues are not participating in the meeting. This, by the way, characterizes the current geopolitical situation in the region and, to some extent, our organization," the Belarusian leader said in his speech. "Year after year, we observe that the situation in the world is only getting worse. The problem is not even that the system of checks and balances, which once guaranteed international security and strategic stability, has sunk into oblivion. We are unforgivably taking a long time to create alternative legal mechanisms," the head of Belarus emphasized.
He suggested that a state of affairs, where the norms and principles of international law are replaced by subjective and situationally changing rules, along with instruments of military and information blackmail, can be beneficial to someone. He also noted the escalation of military conflicts and hotbeds of tension in many regions of the world.
"It is sad that the West is spending all its efforts on combating false problems. Moreover, they themselves are creating these false problems. In the modern world, there are numerous transnational challenges and threats that can and should be addressed. It is only by working only together that we can effectively combat these issues," the Belarusian leader concluded.
