ArmInfo. The three-year probationary period of the director of the Izmirlyan Medical Center, former MP from the opposition Thrace Armen Charchyan has been reduced to 1 year, reported lawyer Erik Aleksanyan.
On February 5, 2024, the Yerevan Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction, chaired by Judge Vahe Misakyan, found Armen Charchyan guilty of the incriminated act and sentenced him to four years in prison. However, taking into account the length of Charchyan's stay in custody, the final punishment was assigned: imprisonment for a term of 3 years, 7 months and 13 days. At the same time, the court decided not to apply a suspended sentence to Charchyan, setting a probationary period of 3 years. Meanwhile, back in October 2023, the prosecutor in the case demanded that he be sentenced to 5 years in prison. In this regard, the prosecutor's office filed a similar motion with the Court of Appeal, but the court rejected it, while partially satisfying the defense's motion to reduce the probationary period.

The famous doctor Armen Charchyan is accused of bribing voters and forcing employees of the Izmirlyan Medical Center to participate in the voting in the snap elections to the National Assembly on June 20, 2021. A month after being released on bail, he was arrested for the second time, after which in December 2021 he was released on bail. Last fall, Charchyan resigned from his mandate and again headed the medical center.
