ArmInfo.Samvel Mkrtchyan, the Head of the European Department of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, took part in the first summit of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum in Vienna from November 19 to 21.
As reported by the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the goal of the Forum is to define the future agenda of the format, address existing challenges and promote cooperation between the EU, member states, governments and societies of the Eastern Partnership in a new way. Mkrtchyan gave a speech at panel discussions on the topics "Eastern Partnership in the South Caucasus: What are the opportunities for European integration and the promotion of democracy?" and "More than pipelines and freight trains: Promoting communication in the Eastern Partnership region".
The diplomat presented the agenda and positive dynamics of the Armenia-EU partnership, including the process of visa liberalization with the European Union, the steps taken by Armenia towards establishing peace in the South Caucasus, and the "Crossroads of Peace" project developed by the Armenian government. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the "Eastern Partnership" format and touched upon the significant role of civil society in enhancing relations with the EU.
During the summit, Armenia's commitment to consistently implementing reforms in democracy and the rule of law, as well as expanding cooperation with the EU was welcomed. The significance of the visa liberalization process was also emphasized.
