ArmInfo. An international conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the discovery of cold fusion reactions is being held in Yerevan from November 20 to 24.
As ArmInfo was informed by the press service of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Armenia, leading scientists from Bulgaria, Germany, Israel, Poland, Japan, Great Britain, Sweden, Switzerland, China, Romania, Russia and France are participating in the conference.
During the conference, Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna Grigory Trubnikov emphasized that the 50th anniversary of the discovery of cold fusion reactions is a significant event not only for the institute, but also for laboratories around the world engaged in nuclear reactions. "This is a very important meeting for us, and it is necessary to adhere to the tradition of discussing the results of synthesis and studying the properties of superheavy elements," the academician explained.
In turn, the scientific director of the JINR Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Oganessian made a report "Cold fusion of massive nuclei".
"At first, scientists in Dubna used this method, then numerous laboratories from all over the world joined them. There was great interest in this topic, new opportunities and ideas appeared. In this sense, cold fusion is only part of the path in the history of the synthesis of artificial elements, when a person begins to reproduce what nature does, but in a different way, based on all the knowledge available at the moment," Oganessian explained during his speech.
In his welcoming speech, the President of the NAS RA, Academician Ashot Sagyan emphasized that the Academy has always united scientists from all over the world and is part of the international scientific community, and also spoke about the activities and structure of the NAS RA. "Our Academy conducts the most important research of global significance in the field of astrophysics, information technology, applied mathematics and mechanics, physics, chemistry, biology, Armenian studies and other scientific fields," the academician noted.
Speaking about the achievements of the Academy, it was noted that it effectively cooperates with universities and government agencies of the Republic, as well as with international scientific organizations. Cooperation agreements have been signed with academies in more than 28 countries. The institutes of the NAS RA also actively participate in European programs such as Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, ISTC, TEMPUS, ANSEF, NATO and BMBF. Among the foreign members of the Academy are more than 100 renowned scientists from the world's leading scientific centers. According to the source, the conference will continue until November 23 inclusive. Reports will be presented on the cold nuclear fusion of superheavy elements, nuclear reactions with heavy ions, as well as physical and chemical properties. The conference is organized by the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.
