ArmInfo. On November 21, within the framework of the "Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes - Armenia-Syunik" events, official meetings were held, during which statements were made by the Governor of the Syunik region Robert Ghukasyan, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Chairman of the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region Fabrice Pankouk, Member of the French Parliament, leader of the "Droite Republicaine" faction, special adviser to the regional council Laurent Wauquier.
As reported by the administration of the Syunik region, the governor of the region noted that this is a historic event for the region, since at the most difficult stage of Syunik's history new friendly names have taken hold, one of which is Mr. Wauquier.
"Of course, if the essence of all this was only the signing of memorandums, we could have done it a year ago, but before that we had quite a few serious professional meetings and discussions, mutual visits, and based on the work done, agreements between the communities will be signed today. The most important thing is that these are not just documents, they imply specific work and friendship between the two peoples," the Armenian official noted. At the same time, he admitted that their administration is aware that Armenia may have problems in the region because it has embarked on a democratic path of development.
"But we will not deviate from this path, because we will live in a sovereign Republic of Armenia, and France and our other friendly countries will support us on this chosen path. This decentralized cooperation will open a new page in the Armenian-French friendship, and from the same high point we will continue the contribution of those Armenians and French whose activities are aimed at the friendship of the two countries," Ghukasyan said. In turn, Vauquier noted that fighting for Armenia means fighting for the civilization of the 21st century. "The dynamic development of our region is also due to the Armenians living here. One must be steadfast to be on Armenia's side," he added.
