Russian Railways Director Gen awarded Medal of Gratitude

ArmInfo. By the decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan, the  Director General of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov was awarded the  Medal of Gratitude for strengthening Armenian-Russian relations and  significant contribution to the elimination of the consequences of  the catastrophic flood in Armenia.

As reported by the press service of the Armenian Embassy in Russia,  on November 12, by order of the President, the Ambassador of the  Republic of Armenia Gurgen Arsenyan met with Belozerov and presented  him with the state award of the Republic.

At the meeting, the authorized Ambassador of Armenia cordially  thanked the management of Russian Railways for their assistance: on  his own behalf and on behalf of the Prime Minister. He also noted  that we appreciate the participation of Russian specialists in such  an important matter. The meeting was held in a friendly and warm  atmosphere.

On May 25-26, heavy rains caused floods on the Aghstev and Debed  rivers in northern Armenia, flooding part of the city of Alaverdi and  several villages. Russian Railways made a significant contribution to  the liquidation of the consequences. Thanks to their participation  and the process being stopped, the work on restoring the railway was  completed in the shortest possible time, ahead of the planned  schedule.

CJSC "SCR" is a 100% subsidiary of JSC "Russian Railways". On  February 13, 2008, in Yerevan, JSC "Russian Railways" and the  Republic of Armenia signed a concession agreement on the transfer of  the republic's railway transport system to the management of CJSC  "SCR". According to the agreement, the concession management period  is 30 years with the right to extend it for another 10 years after  the first twenty years of operation by mutual agreement of the  parties. The tasks of CJSC "SCR" include the modernization of the RA  railway infrastructure, the development of cooperation with states  neighboring Armenia, the development of domestic and international  passenger and freight traffic. The amount of investment carried out  by the Company is $572 million. CJSC "SCR" began its activities on  June 1, 2008.
