ArmInfo. Those states and international organizations that participate at a high level in the COP29 conference held in dictatorial Azerbaijan, without raising the issue of ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan and the immediate release of Armenian prisoners, indirectly justify the war crimes of Baku, encouraging new aggression against Armenia.
This was written on his Facebook page by Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction "Armenia", a representative of the Supreme Body of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" party.
According to him, the silent participation of the President of the European Council Charles Michel in the COP29 conference in Baku deserves special attention, which is a clear example of hypocrisy, double standards, and betrayal of the fundamental values of the European Union. "The man who was one of the godfathers of Pashinyan's (RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan - ed.) criminal statement on the recognition of Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan, at least bears responsibility for the consequences of the process he promotes. The consequence of this process is the complete depopulation of Artsakh, ethnic cleansing there and the increase in the number of Armenian prisoners of war in Baku prisons. Therefore, voicing the demand for the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war is a minimum moral duty for Charles Michel personally," the MP noted.
At the same time, according to him, the fact that as a result of various events held over the course of about 6 months, many, including EU member states, whose leaders attended previous similar events, did not participate in COP29 at a high level deserves high praise. "The fair statements of parliaments of various countries, including the European Parliament, condemning not only the holding of COP29 in Baku, but also the policy of this country in general, including ethnic cleansing against Armenians and the military-political leadership of Artsakh, are worthy of gratitude and are an important achievement. We expect all our partners participating in the conference to directly condemn the crimes committed by Azerbaijan in Artsakh, and expect the demand for the immediate release of all Armenian prisoners to be voiced," Saghatelyan emphasized.
