ArmInfo. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was guided by his country's interests in his comments on the process of settling Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, This was stated by Ararat Mirzoyan, the head of the RA MFA, during his speech at the Parliament of Armenia on November 13, commenting on Lavrov's corresponding statement.
Recall that on November 8, Lavrov told RIA Novosti that the Russian side is not like Western pseudo- mediators in pushing Yerevan and Baku to hastily conclude a peace treaty. "We welcome the significant progress achieved in the Azerbaijani-Armenian peace process. Given the long-standing hostility, military actions, and casualties on both sides, we understand how difficult it is for Baku and Yerevan to make progress in normalization," the Russian minister said, adding that all of this requires not only significant efforts by the parties to find mutually acceptable solutions, but also time. According to Lavrov, the Russian side is confident that "a rushed peace agreement without fully considering the positions of Baku and Yerevan, as well as the realities "on the ground" will not lead to anything positive. Instead, it will create additional risks of tension and potential escalation of the conflict." At the same time, the minister believes that the United States and the EU's efforts to exclude Russia from the Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization process only heighten security threats in the region.
In this regard, Mirzoyan emphasized that foreign ministers of any state typically make statements or comments based on the visions and interests of their countries. Regarding Yerevan's position, as the head of the RA MFA noted, it differs from the comments made. Armenia, Mirzoyan continued, is interested in the earliest possible conclusion of a peace treaty in all areas, whether it be the delimitation and demarcation of borders or the unblocking of transport and economic communications in the region. The Minister reiterated his words that currently, in the process of preparing a peace treaty, the parties are discussing one or two formulations that remain uncoordinated. "Based my observations, we are close to reaching a final solution to the issue and concluding a peace treaty," the head of the RA MFA said.
