ArmInfo. The German government is a reliable and important partner for Armenia, especially in supporting sectoral reforms in the country, as stated by Hakob Simidyan, the Minister of Environment of Armenia, during a meeting with Claudia Busch, the newly appointed Ambassador of Germany to the Republic.
"The Armenian government is committed to effectively implementing all projects with the German side and is ready to expand the scope of cooperation," the minister noted. Busch, in turn, congratulated the government of the Republic of Armenia, specifically the Ministry of Environment, on being elected as the host country for the Conference of the Parties on Biodiversity (COP17).
Simidyan noted in this regard that protecting biodiversity is a top priority on the environmental agendas of both the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Republic of Germany, and the two parties can collaborate in organizing and preparing the conference. As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia, the meeting addressed ways to enhance the protection of specially protected natural areas and explore potential for cooperation.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the programs that have been implemented with the financial support of the Federal Republic of Germany. In particular, they focused on the largest grant program "Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia", which currently has a total budget of 26.2 million euros. This program consists of two components: biodiversity protection and management of specially protected natural areas, as well as forest protection and sustainable management. The Minister emphasized the need to increase efforts and focus attention on this area within the framework of the Conference of the Parties on Biodiversity.
They also talked about potential cooperation in water resources management. Simidyan expressed readiness to strengthen cooperation in all possible areas.
