ArmInfo. Donald Trump's second term in office cannot be like his first: the times and realities are different, American foreign policy has gone too far in many areas, including the South Caucasus. Americanist Suren Sargsyan wrote about this on his Facebook account.
According to him, even as the head of a world superpower, Trump cannot ignore these realities. "He cannot go into self-isolation, as he did in the first four years of his rule, and deal primarily with domestic problems. I am far from thinking that he will withdraw the United States from NATO or dismantle it, as his opponents claim, he can simply change the rules of the game, relations and financing of the Alliance," the expert wrote.
Sargsyan added that Trump returned with greater legitimacy. In fact, the Republicans owe him the majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives. "Let's not forget that he beat Harris by about 4.5 million votes, which gives him exceptional legitimacy to act on the foreign policy front. This will be a difficult time for Americans. It is unlikely that American society will be able to reconcile or overcome polarization. It will also be difficult for foreign players, as Trump will bring new challenges to both allies and adversaries," Sargsyan emphasized.
The expert also noted that there are no expectations from the Armenian government. However, the Armenian community, lobbying and other organizations, as well as the Armenian Apostolic Church, have work to do, including a legal assessment of the ethnic cleansing that took place in Artsakh and its recognition by the United States.
