ArmInfo.Relations between Armenia and the United States have a fairly stable institutional basis, regardless of the administration in power. Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan stated this in a conversation with journalists on November 7, addressing the direction of further development of Armenian-American relations after the presidential elections in the United States.
In this regard, Kostanyan noted that Armenia and the United States are making efforts to enhance their bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership. "Intensive efforts are being made in this direction. I am confident that this work will continue successfully and reach its logical conclusion under the new administration. Our agenda is rooted in shared democratic values. Additionally, we are working to broaden our cooperation, including deepening economic relations," the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia said. When asked if Armenia had engaged with Republicans during this period, Kostanyan assured that contacts were consistently maintained with both Democrats and Republicans.
At the same time, when asked who Armenia's preferred candidate for US President would be, the Deputy Minister stated that the American people have already elected Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. The Armenian government will work with the elected president. He also pointed out the inappropriateness of speaking in the subjunctive form about an already accomplished fact.
It is noteworthy that after the publication of the results of the presidential elections in the United States, publications began to circulate in the Armenian expert field, saying that the Armenian authorities' bet on the Democrats had failed. Experts note that openly backing the Democrats in these elections may have negative consequences for Yerevan. Moreover, experts are inclined to believe that after Donald Trump comes to power, financial support for Armenia, especially grant projects, will sharply decrease.
