ArmInfo.Deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia from the ruling Civil Contract faction made a working visit to the Syunik region of the republic.
As reported by the press service of the National Assembly, in the cities of Goris and Kapan, as well as in the border communities of Chakaten, Nerkin Hand and Tsav, the parliamentarians held meetings with local residents.
"The visit, in fact, concerns human rights, and we would also like to hear questions and problems on the topic that you highlight. Most importantly, we would like to hear questions that are directly related to your life, well-being, security, and we will try to help you in the area of legislative opportunities," said the secretary of the faction, Artur Hovhannisyan, at a meeting with citizens in Goris, adding that the most important topic that needs to be discussed is the peace and security agenda, which the authorities are working on day and night.
During open and honest discussions held in the format of questions and answers, residents of Goris and Kapan expressed concerns about the safety of the population, the need to develop tourism, agriculture, healthcare, education, housing, mining, environmental protection, lack of jobs, demography, youth outflow from communities, and transport.
The meeting with the residents of Goris touched upon the "Crossroads of Peace" program developed by the Armenian government, unblocking roads, and the process of demarcating the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Many of the participants in the meetings, who were aware of the process of delimitation and demarcation of borders and the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, were interested in issues related to them.
Residents of border settlements also raised issues related to drinking water, irrigation water, and rural roads.
Deputies answered citizens' questions and provided clarifications. It was noted that the issues and problems raised are being recorded and will be discussed with colleagues in the executive body.
During the meetings, it became clear that people often do not know about the programs being implemented. Deputies presented a number of programs to residents and provided additional information.
The trip was organized with the support of the National Democracy Institute - NDI.
