ArmInfo. In the face of the de facto rulers of Armenia, the Armenian people are dealing with the proteges of the tyrannical authorities of Azerbaijan and Turkey, rather than a force that represents the interests of Yerevan. Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan wrote this on his Facebook page.
He recalled that in mid-November, Baku will host a major UN climate conference, known as COP29. This event, according to the expert, holds importance for Azerbaijan for several reasons ranging from boosting the country's international reputation to indirectly legitimizing the genocide in Artsakh. Geghamyan also noted that Azerbaijan has made extensive preparations for the conference, suggesting that Yerevan could take advantage of this situation by engaging in diplomatic talks and potentially using a veto. For instance, Armenia could demand the return of all Armenian prisoners of war or the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from certain parts of Armenia's international borders.
"However, as you know, no such demand was actually made. In fact, it was stated that Armenia supports the idea of holding COP29 in Baku as a gesture of goodwill. This is another clear example of the fact that, in the face of the de facto rulers of Armenia, the Armenian people are dealing with the proteges of the tyrannical authorities of Azerbaijan and Turkey, rather than a force that represents the interests of Yerevan. It would be naive to expect that the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem will allow any significant national programs in Armenia," the expert emphasized.
