ArmInfo. The process of issuing new temporary protection certificates (refugees) to forcibly displaced persons from Artsakh has begun. As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, individuals with certificates valid until December 31, 2024, can extend their cards by visiting any regional department of the Migration and Citizenship Service.
" No pre-registration is necessary for submitting an application. The service is provided on-site with the issuance of a coupon," the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
At the same time, the department warned that those planning to cross the border in the near future should not wait for their refugee certificate to expire, but should take care of renewing it in advance. "If a person who has received temporary protection is abroad and plans to visit Armenia, they can only present a valid passport. In case of traveling to another country, it is necessary to contact the RA consulate in the host country to obtain a new certificate," the Ministry of Internal Affairs added. Furthermore, if there is a need to change the passport (such as loss, expiration or damage) after obtaining the temporary protection certificate, it is necessary to request a new certificate, as it is linked to the current passport.
The Ministry also emphasized that a person who has been granted temporary protection remain under the protection of the RA even after the certificate expires until they apply for citizenship. In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded that citizens of Artsakh can obtain Armenian citizenship through an expedited procedure. To proceed, individuals in Yerevan should visit the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Davtashen, 4th quarter, 17/10), and those in the regions should contact the territorial departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. "After receiving RA citizenship, the passport with the code "070" is not punctured and is returned to the citizen," the department concluded.
