ArmInfo.Opposition parliamentary factions "I have the honor" and "Hayastan" (Armenia) are initiating an urgent meeting of the legislative body to discuss the issue of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku ahead of the UN Climate Summit. This announcement was made by the head of the "I have the honor" faction Hayk Mamijanyan, during a conversation with journalists in parliament on October 31st.
He pointed out that the urgent meeting's purpose is to suggest that the National Assembly adopt a statement directed at the current leaders of Armenia, the international community and Azerbaijan regarding the Armenian prisoners illegally held in Baku. "This includes both the prisoners of war during the 44-day war and the military-political leadership of Artsakh captured after the de-Armenization of the NKR. The statement will be addressed to all recipients. Let's see how the Civil Contract faction will behave at these hearings in the context of discussing and adopting the draft statement on the imperative of returning all Armenian prisoners of war and hostages," Mamijanyan noted.
He once again explained that the I Have the Honor and Armenia factions are proposing that the National Assembly adopt the statement. "It would be quite strange if the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia does not adopt the statement on the return of Armenian prisoners of war," he said. At the same time, the deputy noted that several deputies from foreign countries, legislative bodies, international structures, including the European Parliament, have adopted resolutions and statements demanding the release of Armenian prisoners of war and ensuring human rights in Azerbaijan. However, the current authorities of Armenia remain deathly silent on this matter. "Does this mean that if we do not bring up the issue, the Armenian parliament will continue to stay quiet? Is this normal? The Armenian parliament has a duty to raise this issue at least because the citizens of the Republic of Armenia defending their homeland are now in a Baku prison," Mamijanyan explained, adding that the draft statement he developed does not have any domestic political undertones.
