ArmInfo. Armenia has ceased to be Armenia - now officially. This is how orientalist Sergey Melkonyan commented on today's statement by the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry on the issue of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
The expert drew attention to the fact that today Ararat Mirzoyan, who holds the post of head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, stated that "the issue of recognizing the Armenian Genocide is not a priority on the agenda of Armenia's foreign policy."
"For decades, the priority issues in Armenia's foreign policy were the struggle for recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the Republic of Artsakh.
The first issue was a fundamental element of Armenian identity, the second - statehood.
Yerevan fulfilled the two main demands of Baku and Ankara to dismantle the state and national identity: the rejection of Artsakh and the struggle for recognition of the Genocide," the orientalist noted.
According to him, this is how a new historical memory is formed. Melkonyan stated that it is based on the opposition to the one on which the Republic of Armenia was created and is by its nature anti-state and anti- national.
"This is a qualitatively new stage in the creation of anti-Armenia. Then will follow the fulfillment of new demands of Baku and Ankara: changing the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia (which will aim to create some new country, but not Armenia) and closing the nuclear power plant (Turkey has been trying to achieve this for several decades, so look at the issue of creating "modern modular nuclear power plants" through this prism), weakening the role of the Church and the Diaspora, changing history textbooks, etc.," the expert summarized.
The Armenian FM stated in parliament today that the issue of promoting the agenda of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire is not the prerogative of the Armenian Foreign Ministry. Then he repeated the narratives promoted by Ankara for decades that this issue should be dealt with by historians. In fact, with today's statement, Mirzoyan confirmed the concerns of experts previously expressed that the current Armenian authorities will do anything to normalize relations with Turkey while trampling on their own national interests, including in terms of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
