ArmInfo. The Georgian Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the alleged falsification of the recent parliamentary elections and summoned President Salome Zurabishvili to testify on October 31.
"Based on the appeal of the Central Election Commission dated October 30, 2024, the Georgian Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the alleged falsification of the parliamentary elections, which has elements of a crime under Article 164? of the Criminal Code of Georgia," the agency said in a statement.
The Georgian Prosecutor's Office added that, according to the CEC statement and information disseminated in the public space through the media, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili must have evidence of possible falsification of the 2024 parliamentary elections, therefore, in accordance with the law, the Georgian President was summoned to the investigative body for questioning on October 31 of this year.
"The Georgian Prosecutor's Office will simultaneously conduct all necessary investigative and procedural actions specified in the CEC's appeal in order to study the facts voiced by the President of Georgia, individual political parties and representatives of observation missions. Among them, as part of the investigation, all those persons who may have information related to the alleged criminal fact will be interviewed.
We inform the public that law enforcement agencies are actively investigating a number of criminal cases in order to study individual violations identified during the pre-election period and on election day.
The Prosecutor's Office will periodically inform the public about the results of the investigation," the statement, which is quoted by Georgia-Online, says.
Recall that earlier, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili used the term "Armenian carousel" in an interview with the Associated Press, referring to the falsifications in the past elections. Zurabishvili emphasized that the October 26 elections are a falsification using sophisticated methods in combination with the use of technology.
When asked what the president meant by the expression "use of technology", Zurabishvili replied - "the Armenian carousel". "The Armenian carousel" - we call it the "Armenian carousel" here, I don't know if they call it the "Georgian carousel". This means that some time before the elections, they began to take away, under various pretexts, identity cards from socially vulnerable people, families of prisoners - no one could understand why they were doing this. In fact, they (the cards - ed.) were used to vote by the same person. With the help of one identity card and various electronic devices, it was possible to do this approximately 17 times. They had a large number of identity cards or numbers," the head of state said.
