ArmInfo. The results of the parliamentary elections in Georgia fit into the logic of the new bipolarity. The world is again entering a phase of ideological confrontation - the Global North versus the Global South, political scientist Vahe Davtyan said as he commented on the results of Georgia parliamentary elections.
The expert is confident that the BRICS+ summit in Kazan was one of the important manifestations of this trend. "At the same time, the new bipolarity as a new "normality" in international relations continues to be presented under the slogans of multipolarity.
Meanwhile, from the theory of international relations (Kaplan) it is known that one can talk about multipolarity only if there are at least five poles. It is obvious that today the world is more than far from such indicators," the Armenian political scientist believes.
According to Davtyan, the parade of right-wing and ultra-right forces around the world, including liberal Europe, the deep decolonization taking place in Africa (Niger, Gabon, Congo, Burkina Faso, and in the near future - Mali, Eritrea, Sudan, etc.), the ongoing de-Westernization in Central and South America, the new Asia-centric economic world order, as well as many other processes and trends, testify to the growing "right-wing turn" in world politics.
"One of the main results of such a turn will be the final dismantling of the Westphalian system and, as a consequence, the complete victory of Geopolitics over Law - a trend that is already clearly emerging today. Under the conditions of such "normality", only countries governed by passionate and ideocratic elites with geopolitical (spatial) thinking will be able to survive," the political scientist is sure.
According to the latest preliminary data from the Central Election Commission of Georgia, after processing votes from 3,109 polling stations out of 3,111, which is 99.936% of their total, the ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" gained 53.93% (1,118,796 votes). In second place is the "Coalition for Change - Gvaramia, Melia, Girchi, Droa" with 11.03% (228,821 votes), followed by "Unity - National Movement" - 10.161% (210,787 votes); "Strong Georgia - Lelo, For the People, For Freedom" - 8.814% (182,839 votes) and the "Gakharia for Georgia" party - 7.771% (161,215 votes).
As for the remaining two polling stations, according to the statement of the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Georgia Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the election results were annulled at one of the polling stations in Marneuli, and the protocol was not received from another station in Dusheti.
We will add that the OSCE/ODIHR monitoring mission has already published preliminary results of monitoring the parliamentary elections in Georgia.
The OSCE mission coordinator Pascal Alizar noted the good level of organization of the elections, but listed a number of problems: the situation was tense; the secrecy of the ballot was often violated; there were procedural inconsistencies and violations.
Alizar also spoke about the facts of intimidation and pressure, which "negatively affected voters, and this negatively affected the process", and the imbalance in the financial resources of the election participants, the polarized atmosphere during the election campaign and contradictory legislative changes.
