ArmInfo. In connection with the recently published article in the American edition of Newsweek by the adviser to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev, the Armenian National Congress (ANC) party issued a statement accusing the latter of lying.
According to the ANC, in this article the Azerbaijani side attempted to justify its refusal to sign a peace treaty with Armenia. In particular, Hajiyev stated in an interview that the Constitution of Armenia is an obstacle to signing a peace treaty. In addition, he noted that in 1996, the then President of Armenia (Levon Ter-Petrosyan) refused to sign the final declaration of the OSCE summit, citing that the Constitution of Armenia does not allow signing an international document recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as part of the territory of Azerbaijan.
In response to such statements, the called the words of the adviser another lie of Azerbaijani militant propaganda.
The party cited the words of Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who stated at a plenary session that if the Karabakh issue is resolved on the basis of the principles proposed by Azerbaijan, the population of Nagorno- Karabakh will face a constant threat of genocide or forced displacement. , he noted then.
At the same time, the ANC expressed regret that such a serious media outlet as Newsweek did not verify the veracity of Gadzhiev's assertion. However, the real problem in the party is not the lie of the Azerbaijani representative, which can be easily refuted if desired. The problem, according to the ANC, is rather the fruitless policy of Nikol Pashinyan, who was obliged to draw the attention of the international community and, in particular, Newsweek magazine to Armenia's official response refuting Azerbaijan's lies, and insist on its publication.
"Thereby, he essentially once again expressed solidarity with the false policy pursued by Azerbaijan," the ANC statement says.
In this context, the party recalled that this is not the first time that the has had to refute Azerbaijan's false propaganda and provide evidence on behalf of the Armenian authorities.
