ArmInfo.US President Joe Biden wants his administration's four-year contribution to the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations to reach its logical conclusion. This was written on his Facebook page by international expert Suren Sargsyan, commenting on the letter of the head of the White House to the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan and the sending of his envoy to the region. As the expert noted, it is customary in American diplomacy to send letters to the leaders of countries along with envoys.
"Let's remember 2023. The same visit of Samantha Power to Armenia and the letter from Joe Biden, which she handed over to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia. I do not see anything unusual here in this regard.
There is nothing unusual in the content of the letters addressed to Aliyev and Pashinyan. This is a reflection of the official American position, with generally accepted formulations and words of encouragement to move forward. The most important thing here is time. The Biden administration has 3 months left to completely transfer power to Trump or Harris," the expert emphasized.
He added that Biden wants to become the "godfather" of the peace agreement. "Outgoing President Biden, who has more experience in foreign policy than any other US president in the last 30 years, understands when taking office that our region will not be a priority for either the Trump administration or the Harris administration, so all his achievements will not be a priority. On the other hand, he wants to have in his legacy a success story in the field of peacebuilding, the likes of which do not yet exist," the expert noted.
The day before, the press service of the RA government published a letter from Biden to RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which calls for the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations this year. He also announced the dispatch of his representative Michael Carpenter to discuss the details of the peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku. On October 22, a meeting of Biden's representative with RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took place.
Earlier, the American leader sent a similar letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Naturally, the conclusion of a peace agreement and the resolution of the South Caucasus conflict (as formulated in Biden's national security strategy) is also an important circumstance in the context of American foreign interests, which, in turn, forces the Biden administration to fight to the last minute (January 20 at 12:00) to ensure these interests," he wrote.
