ArmInfo.Law enforcement officers of Armenia will have to undergo a random drug test twice a year. On October 18, the RA National Assembly Committee on State and Legal Affairs discussed amendments to the law "On the Investigative Committee" and a package of related laws submitted by Agnessa Khamoyan, a member of the National Assembly from the opposition faction "Armenia".
In her speech, the main speaker noted that the initiative is based on the unprecedented growth of illegal trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. International experience was also taken into account when developing the document. If law enforcement officers are found to be using narcotic drugs, they must be immediately dismissed from the system.
They can also be dismissed if they refuse to undergo tests. The randomness of the selection is due to the fact that different types of drugs act in the body for different periods of time.
Khamoyan noted that people who have transferred to work in law enforcement agencies are already limited in their rights. For this reason, it is impossible to talk about their rights being violated during the tests. Following the discussions, the chairman of the commission, Vladimir Vardanyan, announced a 20-minute break to clarify the provisions of the presented document.
