ArmInfo.Today, October 16, is the Day of the Armenian Press in Armenia.
In this regard, the Ombudsman of Armenia Anahit Manasyan emphasized in her address that in order to ensure freedom of the press, it is necessary to consistently take steps to promote the safe activities of journalists, as well as to create a favorable environment for their unimpeded and normal work. She noted that the professional information activities of press workers should be carried out in compliance with ethical standards and the principles of "responsible journalism" that excludes incitement to hatred.
"This day is another opportunity to declare the importance of your difficult and responsible work. It must be free and protected," Manasyan wrote on her Facebook page.
The choice of the date is associated with the publication of the first Armenian magazine "Azdarar", which was published on October 16, 1794 in Madras (India). In this regard, in 2004 the Armenian government decided to celebrate October 16 as Armenian Press Day.
