ArmInfo. On October 15, Alen Simonyan, the Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, held a meeting with Martin Chungong, the Secretary General of the Inter- Parliamentary Union (IPU). The parties discussed the details of the cancelled meeting between the parliament speakers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. As reported by the press service of the Parliament, Martin Chungong stated that the Azerbaijani side is still open to communication.
In response to this, the Speaker of the Parliament of Armenia replied that he has reached out to his Azerbaijani counterpart for three days before his visit to Geneva, following the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Dushanbe. However, the latter in no way hinted at the cancellation of the meeting, and the Armenian side learned about it only upon arrival in Geneva at the Organization's secretariat. Alen Simonyan also confirmed the readiness of the Armenian side to continue the dialogue and take concrete steps to prepare both countries' parliaments and public for peace and its reinforcement, with the goal of building mutual trust.
