ArmInfo. Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Yuri Vorobyov held a meeting with the Ambassador of Armenia to Armenia Gurgen Arsenyan. Member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Alexander Karelin took part in the conversation.
As reported by the press service of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, during the meeting the intention was expressed to promote the establishment of inter-parliamentary relations. "Our task is to improve ties between countries and peoples, to overcome existing difficulties," Vorobyov said, noting the importance of regular contacts through the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
The current state of Russian-Armenian relations and interaction within the CSTO were discussed during the conversation. Issues related to the project to build two Russian schools in Armenia, the promotion of the Russian language, further youth exchanges and sports contacts were touched upon. "Such important projects as "Train of Memory" and "Heirs of Traditions", in which Armenian schoolchildren participated, were successful, I hope for their further continuation. It is also necessary to support new ideas in this area in every possible way," Vorobyov emphasized.
The vice-speaker of the Federation Council also drew attention to maintaining cooperation within the framework of interregional cooperation: "This is one of the topics that should remain in our field of vision." Vorobyov confirmed the importance of strengthening the historical ties between the two countries. He suggested considering the possibility of organizing a Russian-Armenian interparliamentary meeting dedicated to the Great Victory in the Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Arsenyan reported on some of the results of the summit of the heads of the CIS countries held in Moscow this week. The head of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Armenia in Russia spoke in favor of continuing interaction and regular contacts with Russian parliamentarians.
