People ready to weaken state must never hold government posts - Arman Tatoyan

ArmInfo. At the cost of the catastrophic consequences of the war, we realized that people who put their personal interests and position above the state, who are ready to take steps to weaken the state, just to cover up their personal mistakes, should never hold public office.  This is stated in the statement of the former Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan, published on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the 44-day Artsakh war.

"This is even more dangerous for the state than an enemy obsessed with the idea of destroying it," he emphasized.

Recalling that the 44-day war was unleashed by Azerbaijan with the support of Turkey against Artsakh, Tatoyan stated that the latter has radically changed our lives.

"Now our hearts are burdened with memories of our heroes, innocent victims who gave their lives in the fight for the Motherland, and with their exploits ensured our existence, protected the state. The story of the fate of each of them is evidence of a strong spirit and patriotism, evidence of education on national and state values," the former ombudsman said.

He noted that to this day, Armenia bears the consequences of the 44-day war, which is reflected in the fates of our compatriots from Artsakh, who were forcibly displaced, forcibly disappeared and captured as a result of the armed aggression of Azerbaijan.

"We must maintain faith in the revival, our commitment to achieving peace fairly, creating a strong state and the solidarity of Armenians around the world," Tatoyan concluded.

On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan, in tandem with Turkey and Pakistan, with the involvement of mercenaries from the Middle East, initiated a large-scale military aggression against Artsakh.

The hostilities lasted 44 days and ended with the signing of a trilateral statement by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia on a ceasefire. This statement marked the beginning of the process of the abolition of Artsakh and the occupation of part of the territories of the Republic of Armenia by the enemy.

The real number of people killed in the war is still unknown.  According to the Armenian authorities, 3,825 people were killed in the 44-day war of 2020, the whereabouts of 187 servicemen and 21 civilians are unknown, and more than 11,000 were disabled. During the hostilities, Azerbaijan bombed civilian infrastructure, used prohibited weapons, including phosphorus, against the civilian population, and committed war crimes. Moreover, the Azerbaijani side proudly posted footage of the inhumane treatment of captured prisoners and prisoners of war on social networks. However, the international community turned a blind eye to the actions of the Azerbaijani authorities. No one was held accountable for crimes against humanity against the Armenian civilian population of the NKR.
