ArmInfo. Institute of Botany after A. Takhtajyan of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS RA), as the first scientific institution in Armenia, has become a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). The Institute of Botany became a member of IUCN based on its commitment to implementing various programs aimed at preserving biodiversity and wildlife of national and international importance.
"This membership is an important step for us in strengthening our efforts to protect plant diversity and ecosystems. It serves as an incentive for the Institute to further enhance its role and influence in this area developing scientific solutions to overcome existing challenges, speaking at international venues and sharing experiences," said Alla Aleksanyan, Coordinator for International Relations and Cooperation at the Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. IUCN was founded in 1948 and is currently the world's largest environmental network, uniting 1,400 governmental and non- governmental organizations from more than 160 countries. IUCN's activities are aimed at preservation of nature's integrity and biodiversity, ensuring the rational and environmentally sustainable use of natural resources. IUCN has observer status in the UN General Assembly.
