ArmInfo. Relations between Armenia and Germany, as well as Armenia and the EU, are developing dynamically, as the Armenian authorities have shown courage in working towards this direction.
The Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the German Bundestag, Michael Roth made this statement on September 19 in Yerevan. He noted that he came to Armenia to urge his colleagues in the parliament and the government of the Republic of Armenia to continue on the important path of reforms that leads to democracy, fundamental rights and freedoms.
At the same time, he emphasized that Russian imperialism and colonialism pose a threat that currently endangers the European Union and Germany. "The Armenian authorities have found the courage to resist the "Putin led Russian regime", showing Putin the limits of what is permissible. This proves that people in Armenia have the right to live like those in Europe, with the freedom to make independent decisions in line with democratic values," he said. At the same time, Roth noted that he had already met with the top leadership of Armenia and stressed the importance of holding meetings with representatives of civil society.
At the same time, the MP noted that during his previous visits to Armenia, he listened to the issues and proposals raised, one of which was the issue of visa liberalization. "My expectations for this visit are no secret. After the final severance of relations with Russia, the European Union is committed to strengthening relations with its partners, including Armenia. We have already made progress in this process. I am pleased to see progress in the issue of visa liberalization, and I am hopeful that very soon Armenians, especially young people from Armenia, will have the opportunity to freely visit Europe," he said. When asked about the expected signing of the visa liberalization agreement between Armenia and the EU, Roth noted that it was difficult for him to say. "I cannot make promises that I cannot keep. The liberalization process is complex and is not being carried out by EU member states, but by the European Commission, which is currently in a transitional phase," the MP said. He expressed hope that the liberalization processes would be proceed swiftly.
