ArmInfo. A year ago, on September 19, as a result of the military attack by Azerbaijan, the entire indigenous population of Nagorno-Karabakh, more than 115 thousand Armenians, were forced to leave their homes within a few days. This is stated in the statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Azerbaijani occupation of the NKR.
"This deportation, which was the last stage of the policy of ethnic cleansing, took place during the session of the UN General Assembly, when the entire international community once again discussed the imperative of peaceful settlement of conflicts, establishment of stability and development, condemning the use of force, violations of international norms and human rights in different parts of the world.
Over the past year, the Government of Armenia, including with the assistance of international partners, has taken all necessary steps to meet the primary and medium-term needs of the forcibly displaced Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as to develop the necessary programs for the long term," the Armenian Foreign Ministry noted.
At the same time, the Armenian Foreign Ministry emphasized that high-level discussions at the UN General Assembly will begin again next week in New York.
"The events of the past year demonstrate the importance of urgent efforts to ensure international stability, the implementation of ideas and steps that contribute to the establishment of peace.
The position of the Republic of Armenia on the issue of ensuring stability in the South Caucasus is clear: the earliest possible establishment of peace and relations based on respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, the vision of sustainable development, effective connectivity, and ensuring prosperity in the region.
In order to implement this, so as not to miss the opportunity that exists at the moment and to create a favorable environment for a more stable and dignified life for generations, we expect other interested parties in this issue to clearly demonstrate the necessary political will and commitment to the peace agenda," the Armenian Foreign Ministry concluded.
