ArmInfo. The Russian Embassy in Yerevan spoke about the projects of the UN system structures in Armenia, financed with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation.
As reported by the Russian diplomatic mission, one of the many formats of bilateral cooperation between Yerevan and Moscow is joint work through the UN.
"In cooperation with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia and with the financial support of Russia, UN programs are being implemented aimed at supporting both individual social groups of the Armenian population and various sectors of the Republic's economy," the statement said.
The embassy recalled that through the UN Development Program (UNDP), Russia finances projects worth a total of $9.7 million.
"March 2020 - launch of the project "Support to Inclusive Economic Development in the Border Areas of Gegharkunik and Vayots Dzor Regions of Armenia" (budget of $ 2.8 million). March 2021 - launch of the program "Socio-economic Recovery and Strengthening the Resilience of Rural Areas of Armenia" (budget of $ 1.7 million). July 2021 - launch of the program "Post-Conflict Early Recovery and Resilience in Armenia" (budget of $ 3.2 million). April 2022 - launch of the project "Providing Employment and Income Opportunities for Youth in the Regions of Armenia" (budget of $ 2 million).
Through the United Nations Development Program Children's Fund (UNDP-UNICEF), in January 2020, the project to improve the efficiency of providing basic services for people with disabilities "Strengthening the Service Sector for Equal Participation and Inclusive Development in Armenia" was launched with with a budget of 3 million US dollars," the Russian Embassy in Armenia noted.
It is also noted that the World Food Programme has been successfully implementing the project "Development of Sustainable School Meals" since 2010, aimed at creating a mechanism for providing hot meals in secondary educational institutions and gradually transferring it to the balance of the Government of Armenia. The project budget is more than 25 million US dollars.
"The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is successfully implementing the program "Improving the Competitiveness of Export-Oriented Industries in Armenia through Modernization and Expanding Market Access". The funding volume for the third phase of the project from January 2020 to January 2024 is 2.2 million US dollars," the Russian Embassy concluded.
