ArmInfo. In recent years, serious activeness has been observed in relations between Yerevan and Tbilisi, which has allowed for the expansion of multifaceted cooperation between our countries.
This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on September 16 at a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart Irakli Kobakhidze in Tbilisi. The best proof of this, as Pashinyan pointed out, is the fact that in January of this year, the cooperation between the countries was elevated to the level of strategic partnership. Thus, the countries have managed to develop a viable mechanism for effective and regular contacts based on mutual interests and democratic values.. The Armenian Prime Minister drew attention to the fact that Yerevan and Tbilisi mutually recognize and respect each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty, considering this an important condition for establishing peace and stability in the region.
"The existing relations between our countries are a practical reflection of our understanding of what the relations between the countries of the region should be - based on mutual respect, common interests and economic cooperation," Pashinyan noted. According to him, during the meeting with his Georgian counterpart, issues related to the establishment of long-term peace and stability in the region were discussed. Pashinyan presented Kobakhidze with the latest developments in relations between Yerevan and Baku, as well as the process of delimitation and demarcation of borders and the agreements reached.
"I should note that during the negotiations on the delimitation and demarcation of borders, Armenia and Azerbaijan have achieved certain progress. Agreements will be guided by the provisions of the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991, which means that the administrative borders of the former Soviet Union republics shall be the basis of the process," Pashinyan said. The prime ministers of the two countries have also reached a common understanding on the process of delimitation of the Armenian-Georgian border. He once again pointed out that after nearly two years of negotiations, the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan have managed to agree on about 80% of the text of the peace treaty regarding the establishment of peace and interstate relations.
Pashinyan truly believes that there is a historic opportunity to close the chapter of conflict in the South Caucasus and establish stable peace in the region. "I am confident that the beneficiaries of this peace are not only Armenia and Azerbaijan, but also Georgia, Turkey and Iran. That is why, despite all the difficulties, our government will consistently continue to make efforts to achieve peace in the region, and we highly appreciate the efforts of the Georgian government," the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Armenia concluded
