ArmInfo. The dominant Civil Contract faction cannot name a specific time frame for signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"It would be good if they could specify a time frame, but unfortunately, this is currently impossible," faction secretary Artur Hovhannisyan said during parliamentary briefings on September 16, answering a question about how realistic it is to sign a peace treaty before the COP29 summit, and whether there is sufficient international pressure in this direction, including in the area of returning prisoners held in Azerbaijan.
Earlier, French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Stephane Sejourne said that Azerbaijan will have to demonstrate its sincere desire to achieve peace before COP29. He also expressed hope that the peace agreement will be signed before this summit.
According to Hovhannisyan, while the process is ongoing, it is not possible to talk about any time frame. "There is support from international partners. We can judge how much pressure is being exerted on Azerbaijan by the events that are taking place, as well as by the statements of officials from different countries.
Yes, the event that will be organized in Azerbaijan is very important, there will be a very representative composition in Baku. We hope that our international partners will support us in promoting the peace agenda. When it will be signed, on what terms, in what form - we have talked a lot about this, the processes are ongoing and I hope that everything will lead to positive developments>, - said Oganesyan.
At the same time, according to the parliamentarian, it is too early to talk about Armenia's participation in the climate summit in Baku.
<At the moment, I do not have an answer to this question. If such developments occur, you will naturally learn about it. At the moment, I believe that it is not yet time to talk about it>, - said Artur Oganesyan.
