ArmInfo. Iran will continue to support the unblocking of transportation communications in the  region, but is against any changes to international borders. This was  stated during a briefing by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson  Nasser Kanaani, touching upon the issue of providing a route through  the Syunik region of Armenia (the so-called Zangezur corridor - ed.).  

According to him, this issue is in the center of Tehran's attention  and is causing concern more than ever before.  "Peace in the Caucasus  is beneficial to all countries in the region. Unblocking of transport  communications will help strengthen peace in the region. He acknowledged that this issue and these comments have given rise to  various view and ideas,  that sometimes contradict the developing  relations between Iran and some of its neighbors.  Kanaani assured  that Iran will continue to support the removal of blockages in  economic ties and transportation routes in the region and the  advancement of the peace plan between Armenia and Azerbaijan.  "Peace  in the Caucasus stems from the interests of the region. Some powers  and regimes outside the region, whose interests are not affected by  the instability and crisis in the Caucasus, want to turn the Caucasus  into a region of instability at the expense of the countries of the  region, and their priority is not peace, but they seek to destabilize  the region," the diplomat concluded.
