Svetlana Tikhanovskaya speaks out in defense of Armenian authorities 

ArmInfo. Belarusian politician, presidential candidate in Belarus in the 2020 elections  Svetlana Tikhanovskaya expressed her position on the statements made by Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko against Armenia.

"We categorically condemn Lukashenko's outrageous insults against  Armenia and the Armenian people.  The dictator has betrayed both  Belarusians and Armenians, acting in the interests of the Kremlin.   Belarusians support the friendly people of Armenia, and we strive to  strengthen our ties," she wrote on her Twitter microblog (X).

French MEP Nathalie Loiseau also responded to Lukashenko's attacks  against Armenia. "Hatred of the Armenian people is definitely a  common feature of many dictators. France's support for Armenia will  never weaken," she wrote.

Another diplomatic scandal broke out between Yerevan and Minsk after  Lukashenko's odious statements about Armenia in an interview with the  Rossiya TV channel. In particular, he noted that he has not paid  attention to the policy pursued by the Armenian authorities for a  long time. "Well, do you see what kind of policy Armenia is pursuing?  I don't even want to talk about it and I don't pay attention to it,  but what kind of policy is this? Well, who needs Armenians except us?  No one. Let them develop their economy and focus on what they have.  What France or Macron? Tomorrow Macron will be gone, and everyone  will forget about this Armenia," Lukashenko said.

Official Yerevan did not react to Lukashenko's statements in any way,  but on August 21, a number of Western-oriented political forces and  NGOs held a protest in front of the Belarusian embassy in Yerevan.   They demanded that diplomatic relations with Belarus be severed, and  that the Belarusian ambassador be declared an undesirable person and  given three days to leave the country. At the end of the action, the  participants threw tomatoes, potatoes and eggs at the embassy  building. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry immediately responded to  these actions of the demonstrators. The Charge d'Affaires of Armenia  in Minsk was summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, where a  protest was lodged against him.
