ArmInfo. Western-oriented political forces and NGOs held a protest today, August 20, in front of the Belarusian Embassy in Yerevan.
The reason for the demarche was the statements of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in an interview with the Rossiya TV channel. In particular, he noted that he has not paid attention to the policy pursued by the Armenian authorities for a long time. "Well, do you see what kind of policy Armenia is pursuing? I don't even want to talk about it and I don't pay attention to it, but what kind of policy is this? Well, who needs Armenians except us? No one. Let them develop their economy and focus on what they have. What France or Macron? Tomorrow Macron will be gone, and everyone will forget about this Armenia," Lukashenko said.
The Armenian authorities and the RA MFA have not yet responded to these statements by the Belarusian leader. Representatives of the political forces "In the Name of the Republic", "Republic", the European Party, the NGO "Europe of Rights", "Free Citizen", and the club "Asparez" gathered at the Belarusian embassy. They demanded to sever diplomatic relations with Belarus. At the end of the action, the participants threw tomatoes and eggs at the embassy building.
Note that experts are inclined to believe that the sharp statements of the President of Belarus are related to the behavior of the Armenian authorities themselves. In particular, in the recent period, the Armenian authorities began to hold meetings with the so-called leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya as part of their European tour.
