ArmInfo. Another case of receiving large-scale bribe detected in Armenia. As reported by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee, within the framework of the criminal proceedings it was proven that the head of one of the departments of the RA Health and Labor Inspectorate, K. A., following an inspection at one of the medical centers, demanded and received a large bribe in the amount of 1 million drams from the chief physician of the said medical center in exchange for refusing to record violations revealed as a result of the inspections.
In particular, during inspections conducted by K. A., from July 19 to August 7, 2023, violations were revealed in the medical center. K. A. reported these violations to the deputy director of the clinic and demanded a bribe of 1 million drams to stay silent, using his official powers. Having accepted the offer to give a bribe, the head physician of the medical center gave K.A. the bribe in two parts on July 27 and 31, 2023. Following this, the inspection report stated that no violations were found.
K.A. was charged under paragraphs 2 and 3 of Part 2 of Article 435 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia for receiving large bribes. Arrest was chosen as a preventive measure against him, which was later replaced by house arrest. Decisions were made to terminate the criminal prosecution against the head physician of the medical center, who gave a large bribe to an official, and the deputy director of the medical center, who facilitated the giving of the bribe, based on their active repentance. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is completed and the case materials are sent to court with an indictment for consideration on the merits.
