ArmInfo. The project to build an Academic Town in Armenia is beginning to take on a concrete character, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan revealed on his Facebook account.
According to him, the German company sent a master plan for the future cluster. Pashinyan believes that the Academic Town will also bring a new culture. "I am glad that a new culture is being brought to the Armenian education system in the Academic Town, which, in my observations, is often absent," the head of the Armenian Cabinet said, presenting the master plan for the town proposed by the German company.
The master plan was developed by the German company gmp International GmbH Architects and Engineers. The Academic Town will be built on the territory adjacent to the 17th quarter of Yerevan.
On January 4, 2019, the Government of Armenia adopted a draft resolution "On recognizing the priority public interest in relation to certain territories located within the administrative boundaries of the city of Yerevan and the settlement of Sasunik of the Ashtarak community of the Aragatsotn region" for the construction of the Academic City. The territory of Yerevan's 17th quarter, within the boundaries of which are located land plots owned by the state and the community, as well as land plots belonging to individuals and legal entities, as well as the territory occupied by the Amo Beknazaryan Hayfilm film studio, will be transferred to the Academic City Foundation.
On April 21, 2023, the Academic City Foundation was established. On October 19 last year, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the concept of the Academic City program. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan, presenting the project, stated that, according to the state program for the development of Armenia until 2030, it is planned to create an Academic City as a modern environment for quality education and research. Andreasyan reported that up to 16 universities will be located on the territory of the Academic City - up to 8 state consolidated and up to 8 private or international higher education institutions. The construction of the Academic Town will cost AMD 1,200bln (U.S. $3bln)
