"At the first court hearing, during the preliminary hearings, the court decided to change the preventive measure for all 12 individuals, who were deprived of their liberty: 4 political prisoners and 8 political prisoners under house arrest. They were required to sign a written undertaking not to leave and were placed under administrative supervision. The citizens' freedom was restored in the courtroom," Melikyan wrote.
To recall that the protests in Armenia started after news of the agreement reached on April 19 between Yerevan and Baku to begin delimiting the border from Tavush. On May 9, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who led a march from Tavush to Yerevan, said that Prime Minister Pashinyan had not effectively governed the state in all fronts and urged him to resign.
On May 26, Galstanyan was announced as a candidate for Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
Peaceful protests began at 8:00 on May 27, with the movement's leaders hoping to force the authorities to consider the will of the people and resign. On the evening of June 12, clashes occurred near the parliament building, leading to the police using flash-bang grenades to disperse the demonstrators. In total, 101 people were injured, including 18 police officers. The Investigative Committee initiated proceedings under the article on organizing mass riots. Today, the city court began the trial of 16 defendants.
