ArmInfo. A new agreement on the conditions of the Russian- Armenian (RAU) University's activities in Yerevan will be signed between Armenia and Russia. The RA government gave its approval to sign the document at a meeting on August 8.
As noted in the rationale for the draft resolution, RAU was founded in 1997 based on the intergovernmental agreement signed on August 29 of the same year on the establishment and conditions of the activities of the Russian-Armenian University in Yerevan. The expediency of signing a new agreement is due to the need to improve the efficiency of the University's management, educational and scientific activities, as well as to bring the processes into line with the legislation of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation. The intentions of the parties are dictated by the fact that the role and place of the Russian language in Armenia are determined by historical factors. The Russian language is necessary for maintaining cultural ties and expanding comprehensive cooperation.
