ArmInfo. If Pashinyan is forced to go to a referendum under pressure from the US and Azerbaijan, it will turn into a process of his resignation. This was written on his Facebook page by the leader of the Mother Armenia movement Andranik Tevanyan.
He noted that after 1991, each president of Armenia adopted a new Constitution during his years of rule - in 1995, in 2005 and 2015. And if the tradition of changing the Constitution every 10 years is maintained, then in 2025, according to the leader of the Movement, a referendum will be held in Armenia, or even earlier.
There were certain problems with the legitimacy of the adoption of the previous 3 Constitutions, but, as Tevanyan noted, in none of these cases was it said that the Constitution was being adopted at the request of Azerbaijan.
The leader of the Movement emphasized that when Nikol Pashinyan speaks about the need to adopt a new Constitution, everyone knows that this is Aliyev's demand. According to Tevanyan, this makes Pashinyan's initiative illegitimate, although the latter is trying to present all this under the sauce of ensuring the legitimacy of the elections.
At the same time, he stated that it is the United States that is pushing the Prime Minister to a constitutional referendum in order to satisfy the demand of the Azerbaijani side and finally withdraw Russia from the South Caucasus region.
"Pashinyan is afraid of a constitutional referendum because he is afraid of any electoral process. The elections of the Council of Elders of Yerevan showed that Nikol is in the minority. He is afraid of the referendum because the Azerbaijani demand cannot get the necessary number of votes. And this will mean the collapse of Nikol's power. This will be a referendum on expressing no confidence in Nikol. So let him definitely take this step," he said.
