ArmInfo.Armenian Justice Minister Grigor Minasyan discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation  with International Criminal Court (ICC) President, Judge Tomoko Akane in the Kingdom of the Netherlands (The Hague).

According to the press service of the Ministry of Justice, Grigor  Minasyan recalled that on October 3, 2023, Armenia ratified the Rome  Statute of the International Criminal Court, which entered into force  on February 1, 2024. "By ratifying the Charter, Armenia reaffirmed  its commitment to combating impunity for the most serious crimes that  threaten peace and security throughout the world. Thus, the Republic  of Armenia recognized the jurisdiction of the ICC retroactively,  committing to bring its national legislation in line with the  principles of the Rome Statute," the statement said.

The head of the Armenian Ministry of Justice reaffirmed Armenia's  commitment to ensuring the continuity of the approximation of the  national legal framework for the implementation of the Rome Statute,  while expressing readiness to develop the capabilities of the  relevant law enforcement agencies in the context of the effective  implementation of the post-ratification process of the Rome Statute.  Minister Minasyan also expressed gratitude to the International  Criminal Court for the opportunity to strengthen cooperation.

In turn, President of the International Criminal Court Tomoko Akane  congratulated Armenia on joining the ICC and expressed her readiness  to support Armenia in the post-ratification process of the Rome  Statute and in other areas of cooperation.

Notably, Moscow has previously repeatedly stated that it considers  Yerevan's plans to join the Rome Statute of the ICC unacceptable in  light of the warrants issued against the Russian leadership.
