ArmInfo. Former governor of Lori region Aram Khachatryan has been appointed adviser to the Prime Minister of Armenia. The decision, as reported by the official website of the government, was signed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on June 26.
Aram Khachatryan served as deputy governor of Lori region in 2018. After the parliamentary elections, he became a member of parliament from the My Step bloc. On December 8, 2020, he resigned his parliamentary mandate and was appointed head of Lori region on December 17.
However, on January 4 of this year, by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, he and the former head of the Urban Development Committee under the government of the republic Armen Ghularyan were dismissed. According to the media sources, the decision was made by the Prime Minister after visiting Lori Region on January 3 to get acquainted with the progress of government-funded projects being implemented in the communities. Pashinyan, getting acquainted with the condition of the gyms built in the schools of Lori Region, was extremely dissatisfied with the quality of the constructed premises. On January 5, after visiting Armavir Region, the Governor of the region Edward Hovhannisyan also decided to resign. On January 11, the State Control Service of the Republic of Armenia reported that, upon the instruction of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, it had launched inspections at the Urban Development Committee of the Republic of Armenia. It was noted that the studies are being conducted in order to control the legality and efficiency of the use of public funds allocated for the design, author's and technical supervision of construction work of a number of state educational, sports and cultural institutions built at the expense of the state budget. The outcome of the inspections is still unknown.
