ArmInfo. The Collective Security Treaty Organization expects Armenia to officially clarify its status in the organization. CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov told journalists on the sidelines of the meeting of the organization's Council of Foreign Ministers in Almaty.
"I think that the political leadership in Armenia will still clarify the situation, and there will be an official decision - to be in the organization or not," he said, RIA Novosti reports.
According to Tasmagambetov, the CSTO retains all commitments to Armenia, the country remains an ally of the organization.
"Armenia was and is our ally in the CSTO, and all our obligations to Armenia are still maintained. But the issue of membership in the organization is a sovereign right and decision of the country," he said.
As ArmInfo reported on June 19, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan will not participate in the Council of CSTO Foreign Ministers in Almaty. Back in February, Armenia announced that it was freezing CSTO membership and refused to pay membership fees in this regard. On June 12, the Armenian Prime Minister also did not rule out from the parliamentary rostrum that Yerevan could leave the CSTO in the future.
