ArmInfo.US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
As reported by APA, approving the results achieved in advancing the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan during the telephone conversation, Antony Blinken emphasized the US determination to continue supporting the process of normalizing relations between the two countries and called on the parties to sign a peace treaty as soon as possible. Noting the importance that the US attaches to bilateral relations with Azerbaijan, the Secretary of State emphasized the constructive cooperation between two countries towards achieving common goals in the field of climate change and energy. Antony Blinken stated that his country supports renewed and stronger bilateral relations with Azerbaijan. He also added that the United States will make every effort for the successful holding of COP29 in Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani version of the text completely lacks a proposal regarding the need for Azerbaijan to fulfill its international obligations, including in the field of human rights and a call to immediately release all unjustly detained persons. Further, Aliyev's words are quoted, where the latter again boasts that the peace talks are taking place under the dictation of Baku.
"Praising the United States' determination to contribute to the peace agenda, Aliyev 'underscored the importance of Armenia ceasing its territorial claims against Azerbaijan', which are enshrined in the constitution, relevant laws, and internal regulations of Armenia, in order to advance the peace agenda," Azerbaijani media sources quotes Aliyev as saying.
Thus, Aliyev continues to dictate conditions to Armenia, even meddling in the internal affairs of Armenia. Further, in order to finally cement the Artsakh issue, Aliyev demands the official cessation of the activities of the non-functional OSCE Minsk Group and all those associated with it.
