ArmInfo.On Thursday, June 20, Raya Nazaryan from the pro- Western center-right coalition of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria and the Union of Democratic Forces (GERB-UDF) was elected Speaker of the National Assembly of Bulgaria of the 50th convocation on her second attempt.
She secured the support of 131 MPs, 66 voted against, and 39 abstained. The votes for Nazaryan came from GERB- UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms(MRF) of Bulgarian Muslims and the There Is Such a People party of TV presenter and singer Slavi Trifonov, reports EURAKTIV BULGARIA.
"Today's vote provides an opportunity for the normal development of political processes and the effective functioning of state power," Nazaryan said after the elections.
" The election of the Speaker of the National Assembly in the person of Raya Nazaryan gives a green light to the constitutional procedures for the first, second, third mandate. We are concentrating on the first mandate, it is the only possible one. We have a negotiating team and a sense of politics," former Prime Minister of Bulgaria Byko Borisov commented on the election of Nazaryan as Speaker of the Parliament. After Nazaryan, seven vice-speakers of the Parliament were elected - one from each party.
