ArmInfo. A criminal case has been opened regarding the mass riots during the protest action on June 12 in the center of the capital of Armenia, the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia reports.
According to the source, large-scale investigative and procedural actions are being carried out to establish the circumstances of the incident.
The investigation has received information that on June 12, starting at 19:30, a group of protesters did not obey the legal demands of police officers ensuring the security of specially protected facilities. At the same time, the group, pushing back the police officers and putting pressure on them, tried to break through the police cordon, simultaneously throwing bottles and other objects at the law enforcement officers. In order to prevent further developments, the police, after a preliminary warning, used special means. However, a group of protesters, once again defying the lawful demands of the police, complementing each other's actions, showing disrespect for society and an open disdain for legal and moral norms, demonstratively ignoring the rules of coexistence, committed hooliganism.
In particular, according to the investigation, the peace of people was disturbed, curses and obscene language were heard at the police officers, they were pelted with stones, sticks, bottles and smoke bombs, and the metal fence of the adjacent park was broken. The Investigative Committee identified the actions of 12 participants who committed the above-mentioned criminal acts. A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for 8 persons, two were placed under house arrest, and another was banned from leaving the country. The police were instructed to detain another person on charges of hooliganism as part of a group of persons and present him to the body conducting the proceedings. In order to identify all participants in the mass riots, the necessary investigative and operational-search activities are ongoing. On June 12, as a result of the use of flash-bang grenades by the Police, 101 people were injured, including 18 police officers.
