ArmInfo.Nikol Pashinyan and the parliamentary majority serving him have lost their political legitimacy and must resign immediately. Their further activities only deepen the civil confrontation within the country and discredit Armenia's reputation and recognition in international relations. This is stated in a joint statement by the "Armenia" and "I have honor" opposition factions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
As noted in the statement, Nikol Pashinyan and his political team bear direct political, moral and criminal responsibility for the recent days developments, essentially turning into anti-people and anti-national political elements serving the interests of foreign powers, primarily Turkiye and Azerbaijan. "It is obvious that all the tragic events of the recent period of our people's history are directly related to the activities of Nikol Pashinyan and his inner circle (March 1, 2008, seizure of power in 2018, 44-day war, occupation of the sovereign territory of Armenia by Azerbaijan, loss of Nagorno-Karabakh). It is time to stop this process and continue the dignified process without Nikol and his majority. This has already become an ontological necessity for our people. The facts prove that over the past six years, the one-man rule of Nikol Pashinyan has been formed in the country, which has nothing to do with the fundamental norms of the Constitution, human rights and democracy. A small group of people calling themselves the majority, blackmailing society with new threats of war, holds the Armenian state hostage for the sake of their own security and enrichment. The confessions of the leader of the regime Nikol Pashinyan prove that over the past six years he has been manipulating public opinion, misleading the population, serving other interests, strengthening the material well-being of his family and relatives," the statement notes. Its authors emphasize that during the six years of its rule, the ruling political force has increased the country's national debt by six billion dollars, corruption has increased, and the entire state security system has been destroyed. The policies and actions of the current rulers contradict the Constitution of Armenia and threaten the constitutional order.
"The aggressiveness of the authorities, the use of force against peaceful protesters, the transformation of the National Assembly into a militarized facility are a manifestation of agony and the desire to postpone as much as possible the moment of criminal responsibility for the crimes they have committed. Today, Armenia has become a police state, where law enforcement agencies do not perform the functions of maintaining public order and respecting fundamental human rights and freedoms, but only protect the leader of the regime and his inner circle. The fact that the police do not serve the society is evidenced by the annual increase in the number of serious and especially serious crimes in the country. The judicial and legal system has become an appendage of the political regime and has completely lost its independence and objectivity. After the events on Baghramyan Avenue on June 12, 2024, the Human Rights Defender, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Chief Prosecutor should resign immediately, because they failed to prevent massive violations of human rights. and failed to ensure the rule of law. The incident on Baghramyan Avenue on June 12 became the <red> line which outlawed the authorities.
We believe that all police officers, investigators, prosecutors and judges who commit illegal actions bear personal responsibility for their actions and decisions. They will be viewed as supporters of Pashinyan's anti-people and anti-state regime, justifying cruel and illegal actions against peaceful protesters. All political forces and non-governmental organizations that consider themselves part of modern Armenian society and are ready to fight for freedom and justice must express their clear attitude towards the events of June 12. Otherwise, we see that they are equally responsible for the policies of the Pashinyan regime, are in solidarity with it and strengthen it with their actions, "the statement says. The document also calls on the international community to condemn the actions of the Armenian authorities. Otherwise, double standards will be obvious, that the agenda of cooperation with the international community on human rights, democracy and the rule of law has exhausted itself and is of an exclusively geopolitical expediency nature serving the interests of the Pashinyan regime. "We call on PACE to remove the issue of Armenia's fulfillment of its obligations from the agenda of the June session, since the prepared materials are not objective, do not reflect the real state of human rights and the quality of democracy in the country. The continued biased attitude of the Council of Europe is a real violation of human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Armenia. Considering that under the current government it is impossible to achieve an objective and fair legal assessment of the activities of the heads of law enforcement agencies (the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Chief of Police, the Director of the National Security Service, the heads of investigative committees) , we suggest that they resign voluntarily. Failure to comply with this call will be considered an aggravating circumstance in the future, since continuing to hold office will be perceived as a conscious desire to continue illegal and illegitimate activities. We call upon the worthy citizens of the Republic of Armenia to support the sacred movement, to support those people who want to herald the beginning of a period of stable peace and a strong state with their elimination," the statement of the factions reads.
