ArmInfo. Since 2011, I have been confidently stating that there are no political prisoners in Armenia. Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) of Armenia Karen Andreasyan stated during a briefing on June 13.
"Because if I thought there were, it would mean that I don't trust the judicial decisions of my colleagues, and not just one judge, but many of them," he said. Andreasyan noted that if he thought otherwise, he would have to resign the very next day.
At the same time, he refused to comment on individual cases at the request of journalists, in particular, on case of Mamikon Aslanyan, who won the elections to the Council of Elders in Vanadzor. However, in response to such comments from the media representatives, the head of the Supreme Judicial Council asked counter questions. "Are all opposition members, for example, governors, in custody? Are all opposition politicians of large or small caliber arrested? How is it that there is a judicial system that reproduces political prisoners, then why does it not work in other cases?".
