ArmInfo. In 2023, 3,300 new teachers entered the general education system of Armenia. This was announced on June 13 in Parliament by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan.
"We were able to register such a number of new teachers because, despite criticism, we did everything possible to increase the attractiveness of the teaching profession," she said.
The minister said that out of 3,300 teachers, 16% are men, 32% of new teachers are under 30 years old, 39% are between 31 and 40 years old. "This is a good indicator in the context of generational change," noted the head of the department. At the same time, Andreasyan drew attention to the fact that new teachers were actively involved in the field of natural sciences and physical education, where for years there was a shortage of specialists. <So we are on the right track. This suggests that a system has already been created where the teaching profession becomes more attractive," she emphasized.
Speaking about salaries, Andreasyan reported that the salaries of 8,420 teachers teaching natural sciences and information technology rose by 25%, 3,000 teachers working in small schools in rural areas in all subjects - up to 50% or more than 40 thousand drams. As a result of voluntary certification, as the minister noted, the salaries of about 3,830 teachers at least doubled.
