ArmInfo.Armenia is taking similar steps with regard to the OSCE Minsk Group, the need for which will no longer be necessary after the signing of the peace treaty, Parliamentary Speaker Alen Simonyan told reporters on the sidelines of the National Assembly of Armenia, answering a question about the attitude of the Armenian leadership to the statement of the head of Azerbaijan about the need for steps to liquidate the OSCE Minsk Group.
"The fate of the Minsk Group will have to be decided after the signing of the peace agreement, since after it the meaning of the work of the OSCE Minsk Group is lost," Simonyan said, emphasizing that he cannot understand the position of Ilham Aliyev, who is starting to attack the peace process precisely when the negotiating parties are approaching common positions.
In this aspect, Simonyan also commented on the demands of official Baku to change the Constitution of Armenia. "As for the constitution, I can only repeat the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Our Constitution is our internal matter, we have been talking about the Constitution for a long time, but not in this context, but in a more global one, and we saw the need for changes immediately after 2018," the speaker said, noting the presence of a direct connection between the rhetoric of Baku and the protest movement in Armenia. "I see a direct connection and I am very sorry that this movement, which we see on the streets, needs such statements as a mill in water. All this is a consequence of these "street excursions" - a direct connection between the movement and what Aliyev says.
According to Simonyan, taking advantage of internal political events in Armenia, Azerbaijan is trying to weaken Yerevan's negotiating position. "This is all regulated from one center, the place that is burning with the desire to change power in the Republic of Armenia, where support for aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia came from, where people are called to rallies," Simonyan said, without specifying what he meant, and emphasizing that his words are a purely political statement, without facts.
Official Baku has repeatedly expressed itself in the manner that Armenia needs to change its Constitution, which allegedly contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also spoke in this vein more than once. The RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs called this process an internal matter of the Republic of Armenia.
