At a meeting on June 7, the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia issued a positive conclusion on the draft amendments to the Family and Civil Codes, submitted in the first reading by the MP from the ruling Civil Contract faction Rustam Bakoyan.

Moreover, persons can get married at the age of 16, provided that there is consent from parents, adoptive parents or guardians, and if the other person entering into marriage is 18 years old. Now all these exceptions will be removed from the law. In turn, RA Deputy Minister of Justice Armenuhi Harutyunyan noted that the RA government not only supports the presented package, but also welcomes it, since it concerns the health of minors. She cited a number of statistics, according to which in 2021, the number of citizens who got married at the age of 16 was 5 cases, in 2022 - 4, in 2023 - 3.
